Kelly O'Hearn

Registered Psychotherapist

Child & Youth Worker

Believing that each individual has the capacity within themselves to know what they need, I work collaboratively with clients to explore challenges they may be experiencing and support them in moving towards where they want to be in their life, and how they want to feel. Looking at my approach similar to a swirl cone, I focus on a blend of talk therapy, where there is a non-judgmental exploration of thoughts, feelings, and meaning making about an individual's lived experience, mixed with building skills and strategies to support their needs.  Using an eclectic approach to meet client's individual need, the therapeutic modalities that I most often use (or "sprinkles") are elements from CBT, DBT, ACT, and emotion focused therapy for individuals. However, just like a swirl cone… where no two cones are exactly the same... I work with individuals to tailor therapeutic support to meet their needs at this time in their life. .

Experience

Working in the mental health field for the last 12 years, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including in a therapy clinic supporting foster families & creating therapeutic programs, working with families that have members with neurodivergence and are looking for support, and working in the school system supporting the mental health of children, youth, and the school team as a whole. With a Bachelor's in Social Development Studies from Renison Univeristy, I continued my education and received a Masters of Arts in Counselling & Psychology from Yorkville University in 2022.

Kelly, beyond the couch

Outside of the therapy space, I enjoy spending time with my three kids, and large extended family. Going to new places to try new foods (especially desserts), or taking the kids on a new adventure is always a favourite! When I'm not out exploring or hiking the trails in our neighborhood... you can find me at home reading a book, watching a funny movie, or playing as many games of UNO as I can.
